Can a V6 camaro unibody frame handle a V8 swap without sub frame connectors
SubscribeWorking on swapping out my 2.8L and dropping a 350 into it. I’ve heard my buddy say that he thinks the ones that came with a 2.8 had a weaker sub frame and such than the 305’s and the 350’s. So wondering if anyone who has done the swap can answer the question of: when you put your V8 into the car did you need to buy subframe connectors for it or did the frame handle it okay? It’s gonna sit around 350-400 horse and it’s a 1984 sport coupe 2.8L

It's the same basic car. Install subframe connectors and the poor little car will thank you.

You don't need subframe connectors immediately. Could stage it in to fit budget. The engine swap likely is not the last modification you'll make to the car if you keep it very long.
More important is a steering brace to keep the front frame from cracking at the steering box. You'll want one of those "Wander bars" like sold by www.top-downsolutions.com

Agree on the wonder bar, and the stock front springs give a no cost lowering package too.

Haha your comment gave me a good laugh. Yeah was planning on getting some springs off a different camaro for it. Have to refresh a lot of the suspension for it anyways it’s been sitting for many years. Originally Posted by tom3

It can, but it's one of those things that you might as well do while you're swapping the engine since it's one of the most bang for buck mods you can do to improve handling
