Absolutely necessary?

Is it necessary to install sub frame connectors right away with the v-8 swap into a 6-cyl frame. The problem is my camaro is a 6 cyl frame, with a mild 350(under 300hp). I've heard horror stories of people completely twisting the frame up to where they coudn't even put the t-tops in or cracking th e windshield down the center. Well the problem is the windshield is already cracked down the center from the Previous owner and don't want to escelate the situation by running it without SFC's for a little while.

V6-V8 is the same. The same bodies made both. If you did the swap, then you should know this. You are in no more danger than a V8 car with the same engine. However, if it has 300hp or more, yeah get the SFC's.

For what it's worth, the roof of my car was cracked at the upper door/window opening when I got it, while it still had the V6 in it.

Mine was in the above state before I swapped my 305 for a 350. Do the SFC's.

Sorry to thread jack a bit but are SFC's a very difficult install? I come from the import scene and FWD's where torque is no issue =P

Black,

Since you're relativelly new to TGO, know that searches here will provide a wealth of info.

Sorry I didn't realize asking a relative question in a thread was wrong.

Not wrong. I simply thought you'd find info much more quickly than if you waited on replies.

Stick with the bolt ons,and they aren't too bad.But some of the weld ons, while much stronger, are a more involved project.

I have Competition Engineering connectors, and they involve cutting a channel out of the floorpan and welding in fom top and bottom.

If you're gonna waste your time to do it, do it once. Bolt-ons may not be too bad, but they're not too good either. Buy a good set of weld in ones (good ones don't require channeling the floorpan) that are perimeter welded. If you don't know how to install them pay someone to do it.

This is one mod that when done correctly you can't go wrong with!!!

Thanks, i'll give this guy his thread back now. =P
There's nothing I've run into that I just can't do. I usually figure it out or ask someone and they tell me. I just run into things like not being able to weld. Other then that no one works on my car but me. A mechanic taking his car to a mechanic just doesn't seem right. I've just never installed SFC's we seem to not do many of those with the vehicles I work on.

"good ones" may not require it,but you can bet your last dime that channeling the floorpan and welding both sides is a ton stronger than scabbing it straight to the floorpan.
