87-up roller lifters in roller ready block

Hello everyone, I just got my block back from the machine shop and I am planning on using the factory gm and roller lifters in this block with the spider and dog bones . Will this block work with this setup. Attached is a pic

That block is drilled and presumably tapped for factory roller equipment. No, the lifter diameter isn't different. Length is different which makes the pushrods shorter than flat tappet setups.

Re: 87-up roller lifters in roller ready block

That block has the 2 features that would be visible from the angle you are showing it: the little "towers" that the "spider" bolts to, and the machined-off top of the lifter bore casting area, for the "figure 8" lifter retainers to sit in.

The other feature that you'd need for the factory setup, you can't see from that view, because the block is sitting on it. It's the machining for the cam retainer plate behind the timing chain.

Lifter bore dia is the same in all factory SBCs; .842". Which is why you can downgrade a roller block to flat lifters if you're not very bright. Or conversely, why you can put the original style of roller lifters, with pairs connected by link bars to hold them from turning, into any block.

Re: 87-up roller lifters in roller ready block

The ONLY change to the Lifter Bores, is the Height.

People seem to confuse this for an increase in Diameter...
When it is just an increase in Height.
