ECU QUESTION
I am about to have my 5.0L HO swapped out with a newly built 350…by an engine shop. Does the stock ECU have any purpose once that happens? Besides engine parameters does it control anything else the car does? any help appreciated

Re: ECU QUESTION
depends on what was swapped out. You can remove the 305 and put a 350 in using absolutely everything the 305 was using. The ecm is controlling timing advance, a bit of fuel mixture with the carb and torque converter lock up if you have an automatic transmission.

Re: ECU QUESTION
Zackly: you can swap out the castings to anything you want, but if you retain the factory carb and distributor, you'll need the ECM and all the sensors and whatnot. For example, I ran mine (83 L69) on a 400 for years.
If you change to a non-factory carb, you'll also have to change to a distributor with vacuum advance. This is NOT optional. The original dist WILL NOT work right.
