Is this a good choice engine for 300+ hp ?

I have a 89 RS Camaro with 305 TBI. I plant to swap for a bigger engine with at least 300 hp.

1- Is this a good choice? https://www.summitracing.com/parts/mll-bp350ctc

2- What manual tranny should I pair with it?

3- What other changes should I make?

Budget is unlimited, I just want to keep this car.

Re: Is this a good choice engine for 300+ hp ?

Not too bad for what your getting. Just a step or 2 above stock but still drivable and would sound great with long tube headers & Flowmaster exhaust. I am using a Tremec TKO but that is no longer available. However the TKX is what replaced it. I have had no trouble with my trans at all. Some complained about 2 to 3 shift problems so the TKX addressed. this. I also used a Lakewood blow shield and had no clearance or clutch problems. It was basically a swap from the T5 that was stock.
I also used a UMI torque arm kit with the trans cross member.

So you think the T5 will handle that engine?

Mine is 89 RS. What else do I need to change? Fuel pump?

Which long tube is a better fit?

I had a t5 behind a bit more power. It did fine. That said, I wasn't super abusive. A t5 if in good shape should hold up well if you don't get too crazy. I think you'll be OK. A t56 or tkx and you'd be solid but it's not totally necessary.

They also have a stroker 383 for less money with a roller cam and aluminum heads rated at 436 hp.

I have had my T5 behind my ~400hp 350 for about 7-8 years no issues. But I know it is on borrowed time. Not sure if I will go TKX, T56 or Gforce T5 with new case next

Very few to go around in my area because of everyone keeping their rust free work trucks and vans on the roads but in some areas they are plentiful.

Still see them down here a good bit some as cheap as $150-$200. Not a lot of folks left rebuilding engines or even having the know-how it seems. Weve never bought crate engines we build our own.

Re: Is this a good choice engine for 300+ hp ?

For ANYTHING under 450 HP...

The Vortec 350 will be the best route to go.

I had Directed a Father and son Build in the past Spring:
a very Mild Turbo Build on a Vortec 350.
Cam, Valve-Springs, Piston-Rings, Oil-Pump, Carb-Manifold with Holley EFI...

650 HP/ 650 Ft/Lbs with a flat line across the Chart, Only 8 Psi of boost.

I'm approaching two years on mine in a similar situation, so far so good.
