first time engine swap/build. any suggestions for 300rwhp?
Hello all, as the title says I am about to embark on a engine swap for a 88 sport couple that I am slowly trying to restore for my dad. I am somewhat getting through the process of removing the engine, having troubles with figuring out what to do about the A/C unit as it is fully charged and pressurized and I don't really want to mess with it.
I am going to try to build up an engine from scratch to replace the dead 305 just for the experience. I have done a good amount of searching and looking through different combos to build and I am finding it a bit confusing though. I am trying to find a good combo for around 300wrhp or just above, so any suggestions would be appreciated. I would like to keep it EFI. My budget is around 4500$ though preferably less though that may not be possible. This car will be a fair weather cruiser. I will be doing the drivetrain upgrades eventually as well.
thanks.

For the AC, you can unbolt it from the engine and set it aside while you pull and replace the engine without breaking any of the lines.
See the TBI forum for the "budget 350" sticky - https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/tbi/...i-buildup.html . Probably not 300 rear wheel HP, but probably mighty close to 300 net flywheel HP, and a huge kick-in-the-pants compared to the 170 HP LO3 monster the car came with.
