4.3 Vortec Flywheel third gen v8
Hello im planing on doing an 4.3 Scfi Vortec swap from a 1997 blazer . Question is if its possible to use a 153t third gen v8 Flywheel on this engine. Originally it comes with a 168t witch doesnt fit under the t5 bellhousing . The 168t fits on vortecs v6 and v8.
Should bolt right on but im not sure about the balance weights on the Flywheel itself . What i know the outer balance are all the same but i want to know for sure .
starter will fit
thanks a lot

Just look up a new flywheel for a '97 Chevy 1500 and see if it's the same part # for 4.3 and 5.7l. Iirc, it is. And if it is, then you know the balance is the same and you can use the correct flywheel for the T5.

the auto Fexplate original from gm pn. 14088761 is the same between the vortec v6 and 5.7 v8 even fits on a 1988 c2500 but the flywheel for the manual has a different pn. So i dont know if i can mount a 1990 firebird v8 wheel on the 1997 vortec
i think the balance should be right but i want to confirm it . Thanks alot

I just got curious and looked it up myself. I can't figure out what the difference would be in the flywheels, for the 1997 application. The specs are the same. To further muddy the waters, O'Reilly shows two different part numbers for EACH engine option, with out a description of why you would need either one. The listed specs are the same for all 4 flywheels.
I'm still going to say the 3rd gen flywheel balance should be fine. The parts store listings don't seem to jive with what was actually used in the trucks.

Also, if going to the trouble of swapping in a Vortec 4.3l, why not just swap in a Vortec 350?

I looked up the pictures at rockauto the 90 firebird wheel got the weight raised and the vortec got it recessed on the opposide side so it should make no difference. The Felxplate got the weight on the same place even that the vortec one is larger .
im in europe and good v8s are rare .
the blazer got official sold here so they engines are available.

Ah, makes sense. In that case, I'd pick the 4.3 too.
