Engines for 86 TPI??
I have a 1986 Trans Am 305TPI. I want to put in a new engine either a 350 or 383. I really want to keep the TPI set up. The only problem I am coming across is that the places that I am looking for engines, mostly online, all say that their TPI engines are designed to fit 87 and newer cars. Does that mean that I will have to buy a custom built engine specificaly made for my car or can I buy one of these engines and still use my old TPI? Any incite would help. I have about $2500 and I want around 300 to 350hp. Also is the 86 TPI set up that much different than the 87?

It will fit in your car there is no major structural change in our cars between 82-92 really. There were a few minor differentces but nothing much. Personally if I were you I would but the base GM performance engine and work with that. It is 2200 in the jegs magazine. It has sufficient power too it and as you get money you can add moe things to it.
