I think the best answer would be to review the poncho engine swap posts. just relace "pontiac" with "buick", and get a 2004-r tranny prefeably from an 87 & up buick/olds/pontiac.

first off, its not a big block. Olds has a 400 and a 455 big block. I believe the 403 is still a small block(could be wrong) 1970 Olds blocks are supposed to be high in nickel content so it will be a pretty solid block for a nice buildup. Keep in mind however that oldsmobile tends to be one of the more expensive motors to rebuild, and performance costs even more. You would probaly be alot better off with a chevy 350 as it is a direct bolt in and all accesories swap over from your tbi 305. You will need all new accesories and/or brackets to make it work. Not sure if the mounting holes would be drilled in the crossmember, but they probaly are. It will be alot of fabrication and I am pretty sure no one makes headers for a olds 350 in a camaro...so it would be alot of guesswork on that department.

Good Luck

you are correct about the olds engine family-403 is a small block(externally its a low deck)400 /455 are big (tall deck) motors.any swap could be done-but why? specially to a 403. had one in a t.a. put on the 350 rocket heads to get some compression out of it/but that also downsized the valve size(s) cant recall, too.flaws i can remember when futzing around with it-its weak internally-"windowed"main bearing support/h.volume oil pump put all the oil in the valve covers-need to run a stock or hi-pressure pump-check out joe mondello's site-olds guru.somethig funky with the balance too, i think. swapped in a 4 speed and had to do some dancing with the balance shop to get it smooth. zgauge is right sbc is a better choice. my 2 cents:lala: whats up with this happy bast--d funny
