How much labor cost to drop in motor?
I am probably gonna get a new IROC soon, but want one wiht a bad motor so i can drop a new Gm 350 HO crate motor in. I am wonderin how much it would cost to have the motor put in at a shop and how hard it would be to do myself...Also stayin wiht the TPI and probably comes wiht a 305 stock. Any info is greatly appreciated.

Shop labor is about 60 dollars an hour. If the r and r is just that with no mods it would probably clock 15-20 hours. If there is any custom work it will probably cost more.
I would buy the shop manuals for your car , get some friends to help and then spend the extra money on speed parts.
If you are only replacing the long block and reusing the tpi it isn't that hard.
Just my .02

It would help if one or more of your friends had done this before, but if not you can still do it fairly easily.
Is this your only car? if so plan on catching a ride for a few days.
You could probably do it over a weekend. Since ther are ALWAYS hidden problems(call them the murphy factor) I would allot atleast 4 days.
You will need a engine hoist.engine tilter and an engine stand(nice to have but not totally necessary) a torque wrench, some containers to catch oil and coolant in. a balancer remover/installer, an oil pump primer, and basic hand tools.
You could also use masking tape or some of those tiny notebook lables to mark wiring as it is removed from your curent engine.
I would advise you to mark every wire. Even if you think that you will remember. If you mark it you will not forget and this can save alot of time.
I would also get the helms manual for the car. that way you will have a good referance if you need to check wiring diagrams.
Just take your time, make lots of notes and lable everything.
Good luck

before you put the intake on . put the primer in the destributor hole where it will mesh wit hthe oil pump. fill the engine with oil then turn the primer with a drill. This prelubes the engine so it has oil pressure on start up. It will greatly reduce the wear on the motor that would otherwise take place the first time you fire it.
Besides they are relatively cheap. I think I paid about 15 dollars for mine.
