to make a long story short, i got into an accident in my mint 1992 Heritage Edition RS, the car has way too much frame damage to repair, so if i bought a nice body without an engine in it, around how much would i be looking to spend to have my engine dropped into it..BTW its a 305 Throttle Body

look in the yellow pages under auto repair and call some of the shops in your area. prices vary a good bit from place to place.

 

Just buy a TPI car and make life simple on yourself if you don't do your own wrenching. I wouldn't trust someone else to do it correctly anyway. Even if it's a mint 305 TBI, that's ... just a mint 305 TBI.

 

Blah, blah, blah, enough with the TPI. It is soooo hard to wrk on compared to TBI. If the engine is mint with low miles, why not as long as you have the engine out, swap heads, cam, put on an Edelbrock TBI intake and adjust your FP. You'd be putting 260 HP or so down, have a solid engine and still probably spend less money than buying a mint ype of TPI car. Get the mint body with a bad motor for what, $1000-2000? If you get some buddies to help you with the engine swap it won't cost you muh at all and engine mods will come to about $1000. So realistically figure $4000 said and done. That is a sweet deal to have a mint car, plus you'd have a bit of your old car into the new one, call me sentimental, but that's the way I'd go.

 

Dude, keep in mind, it's not easy to find a MINT car with a blown motor. A lot of people here are like, "Oh just buy a car with a blown motor." Ok, it's not a as easy as it sounds.

 

The intake is. Everything else is as easy.

Your definition of mint must be different than mine. Mint means without flaw. Being that you are from Wisconsin, that likely means "without holes." I'm glad you can find mint cars in WI for $1000.

Sometimes I get sentimental for a good ol' 200-C / 2.8L V6 83 firebird. Then I go fire up the TPI and get over it real quick.

 

OK, as far as finding a clean bodied car with a bad moter, I could show you three in the local paper right now. As far as working on the TPI, I was obviously referring to the FI, and I should not have said mint, the original post said mint I was only saying it for comparitive purposes, BUT, you can easily find a nice clean body that doesn't need any attention, maybe not MINT, but very nice, and easily for $2000, if you look hard for $1000. Example in the local autotrader there is an 87' IROC that had the back end hit lightly, very easy fix with a bad 305 TPI, good everything else for $1100. Sounds decent to me if you got the time do deal with it.
