Cams - mild vs radical

How does performance differ for mild and radical cams? Are there any drawbacks to either?

hi, major differences-a radical cam runs more top end, reguires different valve train parts and u have very little vacumn to run acc like power brakes,,,,,,but u get lots of horsepower if u change your gears to run top end. u also will probably have to go to a stall converter if u run a automatic transmission and a radical cam

Rocky Ill say it again, Change your gears and your cam and you will be very happy. 209 @ .050 is NOTHING to a 383.
Im running 245/255 @ .050 In my 355 and its perfect even with ****ty gears. the difference between 10 degrees of duration is ALOT. going from 224 to 234 is HUGE, and 209 to 234 would be AMAZING!!

I bet your engine idles smoothly at about 600 RPMS. If it doesnt, somthing is wrong. Going to higher gears and 224 @ .050 will result in a Almost smooth idle at 600 RPMS, and alot more performance. Going to 234 @ .050 or more will give you a 800-1200 RPM idle and a rough racy feel. it will also add alot of horsepower.
