engine swap.....knock sensor????

I am swapping out a 4.3 liter engine out of my service van....It is an 87 astro van which was a sprint fleet vehicle anyway i took the motor out and am trying to purchase a reconditioned one. Any one no if they put a knock sensor on these motors??...If not where would i locate the sensor?....On the head or block.....And can i just eliminate the sensor?????

Either no one is smart enough to answer this or just doesn't give a hoot.......Let me try.... You can eliminate the knock sensor but it will flash a ECS code constantly since the ecm won't be able to find the knock sensor, there for the knock sensor won't be there to retard the timing and the engine will ping in certain situations. Sounds like a winner to me.

Doubt there are many Astro Van experts running around a Camaro site.

I'll take a stab. If it's got a KS then It's screwed into the block, not the head. It'll be on the passenger side of the engine probably, screwed into one of the block coolant drain plug holes.

If you want to bypass a knock sensor just run the wire to a 3900 Ohm resistor (Radio Shack $.12) and on to a convenient ground. The ECM will think the sensor is there but obviously, it will never see any knock.
