Newbie, looking for advice. Please.

Hey everyone,

I'm new here. I am contemplating buying a 220,000 Km Camaro and doing an engine swap. I know only basics, ie brake pads, so I would haev to pay someone to do the work. What engines could I easily have swapped, how much woudl it cost and what can I expect from it. I'm looking at spending around 5000 USD on the engine/tranny.

Oh, and is a 89 camaro with that high mileage worth it for $2000 CDN? Or do you all think it would cause to many heaches down the road?

Thanks alot guys!

Lovre K.

I think if you spend a few weeks browsing the boards and doing searchs on stuff that intrests you, then, you will be wanting to put your own engine in. What engine does your car have in it?

Hey lottaballs,

I wish my name had a ring like that to it!

I don't own a Camaro yet. But I am planning on piurchasing one as soon as I sell my current car. (it's for sale right now)

I need to know what model to buy. I want to swap in a newer motor. possibly LT1, preferably LS1. I have been reading the threads here for a while, and feel educated about the whole thing. I just want to make sure that I buy the right model car so that the swap is as easy as possible.

Thanks again,

Lovre K.

To make it easiest, just buy one with a v8 already in it!
just buy one that looks good to you, even though irocs have more naughty bits to em so getting one of those will set ya off right >8)

I really wouldnt worry about an LT1 swap. Those engine arent much of an improvement over SBC's. The ls1 is a different story though. I wouldnt mess with doing one unless you plan to blow $10,000 to $15,000 on it. The swap itself would probably set you back $5,000 if you go the junkyard LS1 route, or $7,500 to $8,000 if you go with a crate LS1.

SBC? IS this the 5.7L V8 found stock in the Camaro?
