You are going to get (most likely) a whole lot of varied responses. The carb guys will say to stay carbed and the TPI guys will tell you to go with TPI. I can't give any advice on which to do as I have a carb'd car and have never even had a ride in a TPI car, but please listen to the pros and cons everybody gives and then weigh the decision for yourself for your needs. Most people on this board are very knowlegable and will give very good info, so take the info and study it and remember, opinions are just that, opinions.

Ok I'm a TBI guy so I'll give it to you straight:
TPI
Pros: Excellent driveability, strong torque and a wide powerband.
Cons: Strangles the motor, cost.
Carb
Pros: Easy tuning, high RPM power and low cost.
Cons: Not as wide a powerband as EFI, sacrifice some driveability and less reliable than a comp controlled EFI.
I might have missed some points but this is unbiased.

you might not be too happy with me because we are unsure about the motor, like knowledge about it....
ok, rough.....
chevy 350 short block, it is bored over, internals are unknown, cam is diff....
holley carb,
new intake to match,
older block,
we beleve new heads porting unknown,
tall chevy chrome valve covers,
i think it might have chrome oil pan,
well... this engine is going into a astro van, but when we are done, i might buy it, pick up:
SLP 1 3/4 headers, Get them coated, (damn SALT IL) (take no chances, might have to drive it here and there)
But then heres the thing, IT MUST BE F.I.
i spent 2000 in my Alarm, that has a good portion for engine,
Engine start, engine Rev, engine start on time or temperature controls, Etc...
plus fuel economy of daily driver.
i have a pont bird, 91 305 TBI
so what im worried about is that i have a TBI, and a stupid new fuel pump,
can i keep all sensors there? wiring? etc??????
i dunno the year
of the block yet, but can i keep AC on there? (i have a hot GF, as you can see from Avatar) i have electric fan, DUAL fan, soon to be on a switch,
so it would be a TPI system, used, (priice)
i dont know what else im missing, sorry for long post, who ever can help are gods, :hail: thanx for all input guys........

This is my opinion;
I'm an "old school" guy(carbs, no sniffer and such)
I got my TPI 3rd Gen by accident and naturally(for me)wanting to "soup-it-up", I ended up learning about the whole EFI mess as opossed to the old fassioned carburetad powerhouses.
My suggestion is go w/TPI. There's a lot of benefits to a computer controled "Hotrod" as you might or might not learn, depending on your decision.
You can get a used TPI set-up for about $400-700, which includes all the induction parts+computer and ralated parts.
There are a lot of upgrades that you can do to a TPI car(see my sig)and they will net you a very fast and drivable car but it will proportionally cost more for parts than anything you want to do to a carburated car.
The "pros and cons" comes down to money! As it unfortunately, always does.
Hope that helps.
