Grand National Engine
Grand National Engine
Hey guys, correct me if Im wrong but the 3.8 turbo from a TTA is the same as a Buick Grand National, right? Well if it is, I can get a Grand National engine for $300 with some minor work needed, do you think I'd it's worth it to put that in my 2.8 Firebird? What would I have to change in it if anything?

You'd have to change the heads on that GN engine to Buick Lesabre FWD heads. You'd have to change the computer in your car, the motor mounts, the transmission, the driveshaft, the starter. That's the short list.
Wow more then I thought. Would it be easier getting a TTA engine, or would it be easier just putting a 350 in it. I do have some options, I could get a 350 out of a 89 TA, or a LT1 out of a 95 Z-28. I possibly could find a TTA, but what would be easiest out of those? The LT1, the TA 350 or the TTA?

you DON'T have to get a new tranny. TCI makes an adapter plate that allows the 700r4 to bolt to a buick 3.8, that's what i'll be running till i get a 200-4r built up. As far as getting an engine, finding a TTA motor IS easier. But if u do get a GN engine it will fit if don't don't want AC, if you do want AC then you need to get the heads mentioned above, also try to get everything with the engine, turbo, IC, wiring harness, ECM etc. Hope this helps
YES GET IT!!!!!!!. Finding a TTA engine will NOT be easier. GM made WAYYYY more GN's than TTA's. The TTA was a 1 year only thing while the GN and Buick T-types ran for most of the 80's. Your tranny won't hold up to the 3.8L's power at all. You'd need a v8's tranny (700r4 or 4L60) with an adapter or the stock style 200R4. Get everything you can from the GN. The engines are slightly differen't, GM used FWD 3.8L heads to make it fit better. You can run the stock GN heads without AC but if you want AC then you need to do the FWD heads and TTA style headers.

What i meant was finding a TTA motor would be easier for the swap. Of course finding a GN motor would be easier
