Need help with 350 engine in Iroc
Ok, I have an 86 Iroc, with a stock 350, 4-brl........what I want to do is rebuild and get at least 300 horsepower from it, no more, and no less, My question is, what cam, crank, carb, valves, rods, rockers etc: should I buy to acheive this, money is kinda tight, but I got enough to do it, it dont have to be the best, as long as I can pull 300 horse from the motor, and it will run strong, can all you give me some ideas..........................thanx in advance
If you own a 86 IROC with the STOCK engine
Yeah I know that, but....it originally had a 305, but now has a 350. I didnt like the 305 so I swapped engines, and now I want to build it up to 300 horse..................

Are you asking what you should do to get there?
I'll assume so. Also that you need to stay emissions-legal (at least in the practical sense, if not technically).
Exhaust - headers, y-pipe w/3" @ cat, 3" high-flow cat & cat back.
Air cleaner - again, assume this is an LG4 system, single snorkel. Get a dual snorkel, or at a minimum, an open element.
Cam - some kind of upgrade. Comp XE or Crane PowerMax compucams will get you there. Upgrade the valve springs while you're at it.
Ignition - coil and module at a minimum, MSD or something similar if want even better.
Depending upon where you want these equines measured, you're there (if at flywheel). If you want that much RWHP, then upgrade the heads and intake manifold as well.

well, I live in West Virginia, and basically there are no emission laws, I even know a guy that state inspects the car without checking anything, almost everyone I know does away with emissions......so......There will be no emissions on it at all....thanx
LOL, Ill tell ya why I want to do this, I know a guy that has a 1980 Ford Pinto, he has put a 351 windsor in it, and he has around 400 horse, you would not believe how this car of his runs, lol...........he is a ford guy, 100%.....and he is always bashing Chevrolet, so............I am gonna go till I blow him away, he is running posi rear 9 bolt, quarter mile is 115mph@ 12.98........so I just want to beat him....................so...that is the reason, and by the end of spring, he will see what chevy is about, lol
(I HOPE ANYHOW)

300 HP is not that difficult to get out of a 350sb chev.
If you rebuilding the short-block, just get yourself a nice mild rebuild kit. Consider Flat-Tops if you have 882 heads & that 76cc combustion chamber. You dont need a new crank or rods. The kit will come with the usual stuff like .030" over pistons, rings, bearings ect...
If you know what type of heads you have (prob 882's) then you'll have to rebuild them to make sure all those valves are sealing probably & you may want to upgrade them with Z-28 springs. Just do some mild exhaust poting while your at it.
Cam, i would do 1 of 2.....Comp XE268 or the Comp280H. I have used the 280H & it's a very nice cam with lots of low-end & good top end pull.
Go with a nice dual plane intake such as an Edelbrock RPM and a nice carb sittin around 650cfm (i prefer Holley)
Anyways wirth these mods you should meet your goal
