TPI swap into regal.
TPI swap into regal.
i have a buick regal, i took out the v-6, and planning to install a 1978 chevy 305. i just bought an 88 TPI and heads, planning to put this on this 305. do u think this will work? if so, what problems will i run into? i also bought the computer, and the mass air, all for about 200 bucks. by the way, i have everything needed to work so far, except for the fuel injection harness.

Welcome aboard.
What year's the Regal? I ask because you need a vehicle speed sensor, which is on the back of the speedometer. Only on computer-contolled cars, though.
The harness is a biggie. You really need it and all the sensors that go with it. You might try to pick up an '88 Camaro/Firebird TPI harness from a junkyard. The other route is a retrofit outfit like Painless (and to your wallet it isn't).
A comprehensive wiring diagram for the vehicle from which the harness came and for your Regal would also be a good idea.

The VSS in some 80 and all 81-87 regals is 2 pulse and perfect for a MAF swap.
The wiring on a carb 81-87 Regal under the dash should be just about identical to an LG4 car so it's not that bad to adapt.
You'll need 3 or 4 supplementary fuses under the dash for injector feeds and something else (can't remember off the top of my head.
All you're trying to do is give the ECM the same power feeds as it had in the f-body, & you'll need to add 2 or 3 to the ALDL too.
Not too tough; an 86 or 87 harness is a little easier to work with than an 88 so I'd try and locate one of those. Factory ones have elec. fans, AC hookups and a few little niceties that I prefer over the painless ones, and they're the perfect length for a g-body too
Check the classifieds; I bet you can find a harness.

Mounting and running the MAF is sometime tricky too, since it goes forward a lot. The firebird ducting goes sideways I think.
Regals are cool, you'll end up with a luxury midsize with muscle.
