305 to 350

I want to switch my 305 LG4 to a carb. 350 with 300+hp. I found a short block for $1880 CDN that claims 300hp, is this a good deal, or should i build the block myself? I can only spend about $2000 so i cant afford too much.

If you haven't done anything else to the car, that might not be enough money to do things right. You would probably benefit more from exhaust upgrades (headers, cat, cat back), air cleaner, and cam change than from just a switch to 350. The reason is the stock LG4 air cleaner & exhaust chokes a wimpy stock 305, let alone a healthy 350. The LG4 cam is almost a cruel joke.

You might consider doing the upgrades to the 305 that will transfer over to a 350 first, then save more money to do the 350 later.
