Well guys, I'm new to this site but I've been doing a litle research on putting a 383 together. I have 2 carbeurated 350 4 bolt main's out of 1985 Chevy Pickups. One thing I wanted to know were the engine codes?? I also want to know how well they fit into 3rd gen's. ANy info you guys can give me would be great!

Start searching the archive. All SBC engines are externally the same dimensions. A 383 is just a 350 block using a 400's longer stroke crank. Externally it doesn't change.

 

That 4-bolt will drop right in place of any of the V8s in the 3rd gen. It is something very easy to do.
