I am getting rid of my 305 TBI

I really want to get rid of my 305 becuase it is just slow. I would like to get a 350 crate motor. What are some motors out there that are around 2000-2500 and swap with my 305. I have the 700R4 transmission and my other specs are in my sig. I was looking at the 350 H.O. from gmpartsdirect.com. Would this work?

Thanks,
Kevin

I don't know what 305 you have, but I don't call my 170 stock HP fast.

Jprevost swaped the 350 HO into his car. He spent about $1000 over the cost of the motor before he was done. Just pointing that out so you could factor that in to the overall cost. do a serch on his name and find his website, he has all kinds of info and pictures of his swap.

The smallest V8 should have been a 327? I've seen 12 second 283 and 302 Z/28 Maros at the track. Oh and theres that 9 second 305 TPI car they always talk about on the power adder board.

Lets face it: A SBC is a SBC. Sure theres no replacement for displacement, but really I'm sure even a 267 could take you into the 11's. It's all about the $$.

welp whats the fastest thing on the road? ummm a motorcycle? yeah ,how big is the motor on that? ummmmmm not that big? yeah so why is it so fast? ummm cuz the body and the motor dont weigh that much? yeah ummmmm hey 1992rs? could ya tell me how ya only have 170 hp with all those things listed in your sig? and i dont know what my car will do in the .25 , not gonna worry bout it till im completely done with it.............not going to debate what motor is fast or what motor isnt but i will tell ya this i have a 305.....ive raced old cars new cars trucks yada yada, street racing im talking.....the only thing ive lost too so far is a new generation vette and it wasnt by that much i simply gave in cuz we were coming up to a turn and it was see who wins or see who dies...........if your talking street i think a 305 is a fine motor......if your talking drag of course not.....my 305 isnt slow thats all i meant

Wasp, I said that my car is 170 HP stock, I really don't know what the HP is now though. All I know is that I want a 10 sec street car and I don't think I can do it wasily with my 305 TBI. I probably shouldn't of said my car was slow, but isn't fast compaired to some newer sport cars.

iroc22, I agree with you. You can make any car an 11 sec. It just may be harder with a 267 than a big block.

JokerRS, thanks for that info. It helped out a lot.

The 305 has one of the worst bore to stroke ratios, bottom line. There is no getting around that. So to get the ideal 1hp per cubic inch out of the 305 cost more. They do run strong and run forever, but getting a hold of an LT1 out of a junkyard is probably your best bet. No LTR or TBI, Alum heads and a decent stock cam. That will get you a good start to get into the 13's.

As far as 10's go, you better have a lot of cash saved and plan on a 400 to 434 block or stick with a LT1 and spend a good 3-4000 on forced induction. Not to mention everything else you are going to need to replace or stregthen.

I dont know if I totally agree with you on that one, because if you compare a 383 with a 305, they have a similar bore and stroke combination. Sure the 383 has a bigger one, but it's the same idea, only larger.

So in essence, comparing a 305 to a 350 is like comparing a 383 to a 400. Makes sense...
