balancing

What do I need in order to balance my parts?
I just bought a stroker kit from powerhouse and I have a new block. Just need to have it all balanced?

First of all you won't be able to do it yourself unless you have a balance machine and scale.

Everything required for balancing:
Crankshaft
Harmonic balancer and flexplate/flywheel. Since it's an externally balanced engine these parts are required. Buy new ones.
Con rods
Pistons

That's the rotating assembly. It all needs to be weighed. All the weights are adjusted to the lightest part. 8 pistons. 7 heavy ones are reduced to the weight of the lightest one etc. Then the crankshaft assembly is balanced to match the weight of the con rods and pistons.

Take everything unassembled to the machine shop. Once it's all balanced it can be assembled.

The balance shop will also want rings and bearings, as their weight is not negligible. At least my shop wanted them.

Some kits from powerhouse come internally balanced. Check and see if yours is. I've been looking at engine kits from them myself.

In total, the kit cost me about $550 bux with CR3 Rods and ARP bolts AND shipping to New Jersey. The kit is great but is not balanced.
Yes, this kit will work with a TPI engine. I plan on building a TPI 383 motor with an LTR setup and vortec heads.

the bottom end, except for the block. And a complete gasket set and piston rings. Very good kit.
