1977 350 Rocket....worth it over my L03?

A friend of mine has a 350 rocket engine out of a 1977 Delta 88. He is unsure of the mileage but is looking to make some money and is willing to sell me the motor. I am just wondering is anyone knows what the HP and Torque rating of this motor is? It should deffinately be a jump over my TBI 305 right? Even though it is out of a late 70's car. What price would be fair considering I would need to rebuild it once I got it?

it might have alittle more HP...just look at the 78 vette (buddy has one im going by what he says) anyways he told me the vette only had 180hp so that means that most other 350 cars of the time would be less than that...the 78 vette is pretty slow i smoked him red light to red light but i had no chance on top end

Isn't the rocket block the one that you can use wildly long stroke cranks in?

The Olds engine won't bolt up to your tranny. You would have to get a 350turbo or 400turbo or 200r4 with the BOP(Buick, Olds, Pontiac) bolt pattern. Then you would have to make or buy new special motor mounts. Then you would have to mod the engine to get the performance you thought you would have just by swapping it out with the 305. More headache than it's worth. IMO

Okay, just wondered. Thanks for replying guys. Looks like I'll be modding my 305....still looking for a good 350 to drop in that wont cost an arm and a leg before I get too far into my 305.

350 Olds has lots of potential plus lots of parts are out there for them. Some non-smog heads, a good carb, and cam will wake that motor up. If the motor is cheap it's worth it.

Trans adapter to mate BOP block to 700R4 is available.

Motor mounts... easy to figure out, big deal some new holes in your cross member.

I still think a 350 chevy would be cheaper and a no brainer. Now if that was a 455 Olds that might be a different story.

I always crack up when people talk about 350 "rockets". All Olds engines back then were called "rockets". You'd be half way to having a 350 Chevy built just by what having a set of headers custom built would cost. Also, Olds engines are wide; not good for a strut tower engine compartment.
