Leaning towards this one...
I was thinking of going with a crate from goautocenter. Id prefer doing this over refreshing my old 305. Everyone says "just mod what you have... it'll last..." But with 120 grand on it im not so sure.
Anyhow, anyone using this engine getting good results with it? Im probably just gonna stick w/ my throttle body and modding it some untill i get the exaust system squared away, which will be edelbrock tes headers, 3 inch cat and catback system. What do you think the output will be? Im leaning towards around 220 or so if im lucky. Any thaughts/comments on this motor?

I got 166k miles on the 305 TBI. No smoke, no codes, barely any oil burn between oil changes. You can get about 230 HP on the 305 with little drama if that's what you want. Full exaust, ultimate TBI, new aircleaner....

this ones got alot of smoke and blowby. Although it would probably be remedied by replacing the ehads considering the vavle guide seals are shot, the motor also has other issues too. The guy i bought it from loves to race cars and has a driveway taht looks like a rubber coated dragstrip so i dont know what teh engine has been through (not to mention the fact taht i drive like a nut). The biggest limiting factor for this is taht im a engineering student (gonna be a senior next year!!!!) so i dont have much time. I just want, as bad as it sounds, a "quik fix". Just spend some time dropping the new engine in and be done with it so i can move on to other things in the car. If i was in high school still and not away at college most of the time i would just mod the ol' 305. but, as they say, time is a very valueble comodity.

anyone with a tbi setup using this engine? If a good 2 inch tbi w/ intake w/ some other mods works well ith this motor ill probably just stick w/ that.
Heres a better idea.

Almost the same price, more power, 4-bolt mains and 100% GM.
You may have trouble getting the new motor tunned properly. And either motors cam may not be compatible with EFI. Keep that in mind.

yeah... one of the reasons i was leaning toward the first is that i pobably will eventually convert over to tuned port. The first already has the tpi heads. Im sure ill run into issues while using the efi but if im planning on using tpi, the first is the way to go. Plus it requres some more small crap like a new flexplate, intake, etc. etc... This was one of the motors i was considering. Damn sweet motor for the price, though...
