Dunno Andy, but if you find one you like in the US, i'm pretty sure US Automotive in Bedford would be able to get it into the country for you.

There are several places that advertise in 'Street Machine' and 'Classic American' each month who sell custom fit thirdgen car covers. I'm at work just now and don't have the mag's with, but I can look it up and post it when I get home if you like.

When you get one Andy, can you let us know the fit and quality etc?

Andy,

Good to see you're still with us.

£164 ??? Damn! You could almost build an awning fior that. Is it just me, or does that seem a bit pricey?

I suppose a very good weatherproof cover that allows some breathing is worth the expense, but when we analyze the actual content of the cover, it seems a bit steep. Then again, I suppose I have no room to speak. I have indoor dust covers on the cars and park them in a garage, then waste the money to keep it heated. I just thought that $35 was high for a dust cover. Whew!

Hi Vader.
Thanks for your interest.
I suppose it does seem a bit much, but needs must! My newly painted 91RS is getting a good soaking everyday. On top of that we have just had our Guy Fawkes bonfire night (that lasted from 3 weeks before nov 5th to probably 3 weeks after-even though it is supposedly only 1 night) with all the associated ash, half burnt paper, firework carcasses etc flying around. Now fireworks are for sale all the year through, and with xmas not far away, I want to avoid it all. It will even protect against the worst evil of all-kids' bicycle handlebars. If my son ever catches the side with his bike, well I can't guarantee his safety if I catch him!!!
Oh, and on top of that, some of the new weather seals are not stuck down yet.

Andy.

PS Heated garage eh? Nice. How many cars in your garage Vader?
Space is at a premium here I can tell you.

Hi Andy!! Hope you are well. Check out Classic American Magazine this month (just got mine through the letter box) it has a feature on Christmas gift ideas and one is for a Classic Additions Tybond cover and a good discount for readers. I have personally used this before I had a garage and found it great. They also do a heavier duty one which is even better

I originally bought a silver one from the back of Street Machine and it was as pointless as a broken pencil What is the point of a cover that actually lets the car get wet?

Give me a shout if you need any more info.

Cheers,
Felix

Hi Felix.
I phoned classic additions this afternoon and explained that the advert in CA said a discount was in order, but I had ordered it before I knew that! "Any chance of a discount" I said. Cheeky thing I was! The gentleman said I could have a free plastic covered steel cable and padlock thrown in free of charge. That will do I said.
So, thank you for the info. Freebies eh? Should all be arriving tomorrow. Photos then.

Andy.

Glad to hear it. I ripped mine shortly after I got it and they replaced it no questions asked. Their after sales service is second to none

All the best

You mean actually drive them? Like in the wet and the salt? Isn't just staring out of the window at them and admiring enough then?

30 000 miles in 25 months says no!!!

actualy, if i could, my car would be in a carpeted heated garage as soon as the weather turns bad, but it isn't. being young and dumb, it has to earn its living......

doesn't mean its ever dirty though!

Here is the car cover update:
After going with the LL size from classic additions, I have not been disappointed. The cover is fairly light, but well padded (felt) on the inside. Very easy to fit, but I can tell you that there is no way I will get it back into it’s case!
Fits very well. Perfect for length. That rear aero wing worried me, but have a look at the photos and you can see that it fits like it was designed for it! Elasticated front and rear for a snug fit, with plastic hooks.
Well worth the £164 I paid (with the steel cable and padlock thrown in FOC).
It has taken 2 weeks of waiting so I can get a dry, non working day to wash the car, dry it off and fit the damn thing! (If you wondered why it has taken so long!).
Hope the summer comes quick.

Andy.

Hi Boydee.
Difficult question to answer that one.
Frost doesn't seem to affect it. I don't really know what effect it could have, or even what to look for.
There has been plenty of water standing on it in puddles, and these then freeze. I haven't removed the cover yet to see if any damp has got underneath. Next dry day I will whip it off and see.

Let you know.
Andy.

Andy,

I'm bringing this one back from the dead. I'd like to hear how the cover did over winter. Was your car completley dry when you removed it?

Do you have any pictures of the cover on the car? I might have to get one for the winter months.

Thanks

Robert

Hi again.
Not convinced with car covers at all. It was damp underneath in various spots. Top of both rear quarters was damp, and top of nose cone. Condensation no doubt. But the car was protected to some degree. But I removed the cover for the last part of the winter.
One thing I did find was that the cover blew "round" the car in the high winds. It was secured underneath to itself, but not to the car (if you know what I mean). The ropes then marked the lacquer lightly when it rubbed.

The cover is now in the loft in disgrace. I will use it next when the other car comes out, at shows, during the night.

So, in hindsight, I would rather not use it, and just leather the car down every so often. I suppose if it was a T top, and possibly leaked, then a cover would be invaluable.

Good luck with your purchase.

Andy.

PS I'll look out the photo with the cover on the car.
