Height of car
Can anybody help,
I'm shipping a newly purchased '88 Trans Am GTA to the UK & building
a garage to house it.
Anyone know the height of the car with hood/trunk open?
(whichever is the higher)
Regards, dacriz

Hi dacriz.
Guess at about 6ft 8 inches. But if you are going to do any engine pulling, or raising the car with the tailgate or bonnet open, you need about 8 feet.
Good luck with the car and the garage! Get us some photos.
Andy.

Andy you're a star!
Thanks for that. I've got 7'2" on the plans & can firm that up with the carpenter on Monday. Can't do 8' with a useable loft.. so the junk doesn't
fill the space the car will live in.. but a relief that the size is workable.
The car's at the port in NY awaiting documentation to catch up.
A trip to Autopontiac on arrival for the conversions & it'll be ready at last!
I'll certainly post some photos.
Is a flame red GTA. 1988. I nearly bought one in 1990 when serving in Germany (tax free fuel!!) but £1700 insurance frightened off the young lad I was. By the time I returned from that year's all expenses trip to sandy climes
the 1991 model was here...Love or hate the new nose, I'm afraid I hated it!
So here it is... my mid-life-crisis essential... Fantastic!

Hi, I copied & pasted the quote below. Just over $1600. On top of that there's a £350 handling charge at the port here. Beware the 6% sales tax to the State then 10% tax plus 17.5% VAT here. Bottom line appears to be 40-50% costs on top of purchase price & shipping on top of that. Add conversion costs & it's getting very unfunny!! Best I avoid Red Ken's congestion charge when I collect from the port!
That said it's a lot of car for little money so I don't give a damn. And it is a bargain as a statement to all those who unquestioningly swallow the agenda driven crap currently peddled about Global Warming. 5 litres but emissions technology light years ahead of anything this country had 20 years ago.
I'll no doubt be in touch for parts suppliers down the line so great to share info on helpful people stateside.
