Fewer and fewer in the UK every year. I was talking to a guy in a junk yark the other day and he was telling me the rate at which he is getting new ones in is slowing...and that's not going to be because people are fixing them up.

Hi Supernoob,
Is this car isn't drivable and you have no way of testing, it could also have transmission problems. It may only be £1600 but gearbox and engine issues can quickly make it cheaper to have just spend an extra couple of thousand to get a great stock(ish) running car.
I have many issues with buying a car with an engine swap. For a start, without checking the block numbers you have no idea what size the actual engine is. I'm also always dubious when someone claims a 350 swap that is "putting out 350bhp" and all the other selling guff.
If the body and interior is in great shape and you have some money put aside to spend on potential mechanical issues then it could be worth considering. Otherwise, I wouldn't even consider it. With gas prices at the $2/litre mark the price of these cars has taken a bit of a hit cost wise due to people not being able/willing to afford to run them.
Parts are never a problem. I tend to use Ultimate Spares of America for wear and tear stuff and order performance gear straight from the US.

No you misunderstand me the car drive fine, just a little sluggish thats it. he has used it all summer had has just put new sparks new leads and new edelbrock carb. he took it to some one to find out why it was a little sluggish, and they said that the compression is a little down. its a new t&g shifter and a new TH400 gear box and he says he has the papers for it. but the big thing is the paint is flat all over.
