That's different, but where does the I-Pipe connect to? Is it duals, if not, why is there 2 mufflers?

The 1982 V-8 cars had that exhaust system. I think some 83's had it also.
The system routes the same as the other f-bodies do.
Mine has a 2.5" cross over, but where the bends are it wrinkles, into a catalytic converter on the left side, then a 2.25 intermediate pipe to just in front of the rear axle, then Y's into a pair of 1.75" tubes that are pretty much parallel over the axle and into the 2.25" resonator between the two mufflers, then out through 2.25" tail pipes.
It does have some drawbacks though:
1. The crossover isn't mandrel bent, and it does that T thing on the left side.
2. The Cat needs better flow. (what factory cat couldn't use more flow?)
3. The I pipe should be larger. 2.5" minimum.
4. The over axle Y-pipe should be 2"
5. The resonator should probably be larger.
6. The mufflers have 1.75" inlet and outlet. Way too small.
Sorry it's so long but you asked

I had all that crap ripped out from my car as soon as I could afford it. After doing that, my new exhaust made a big difference

That just looks like "the hard way" to me. I guess they didn't have much for cross flow mufflers yet at the time, I dunno.
