Passing e-check with no cats
Is it possible? Easily? I was told that I had no cat from my car's previous owner because a straight-pipe had been welded on. Am I going to have to fix it before e-check or can I temporarily make it passable with gas additives or something? :-D

Depends, do they do visual checks there, if so you'll fail, but if not you have a chance. Be sure to drive the car about 20 mins before you go, it helps clean the engine out a little, I've done it before and has lowered my #s.

I dunno, last time I e-checked (in an Escort, heh) they didn't seem to do any visual inspections.
I won't get in trouble if I don' t have the cats, right? They'll just not pass me?

echeck... you in ohio?
Anyways, when they did mine I dont even remember them checking for a cat, and Im sure they didnt do an underhood visual. The manifold I want to use doesnt have EGR, so I minus well pull off all the other smog stuff but the cat. I figure if I have the cat then lean it out before I go then I should pass.
Oh yea go in the dead of winter if you can, they'll want to get it done asap so they might not be as strict.

the motor in my sig passed. i used my old edelbrock headers with the tubes removed and a new cat with flowmaster exhaust. i ran about 2 gallons of gas with 2 bottles of rubbing alcohol. i had .113 primary and secondary jets in my edelbrock 750 when i ran it through.

wow..and i thought AZ was tough...
check your timing, too?? geez...they use to do a visual inspection for the cat here, but last 3 times i have taken cars through, they havent gotten their little mirrors out...but they did catch a broke EGR hose and failed my truck...had a gas cap fail another time. i use to have some cats off a 77 t-bird..they bolted onto the exhaust manifold...when i ran an old skylark i had, i just took off my normal exhaust pipes (with glasspacks) and bolted these right on the headers....then bolted mufflers to the cats...and had pipes run straight to the side of the car near the back wheel (cost me $40 for the 2 pipes with a slight bend) didnt sound as tough as the glasspacks, but was still mean.....AND it passed emissions..
