Exhaust cutout gains...

I'm thinking about getting a cutout done on my car and I'm wondering who else has done this and if so what kinda gains did you get out of it? A couple fourth gen friends of mine put there's right after the axle before the muffler...easy to get at and sounds good.

who ever put a cut out on right before the axle defeated the purpose of a cut out. the whole point of a cut out is to run open headers. they should be installed as close as possible to the header. i had one on my car before i bought my headers and had to redo the ypipe. i wouldnt recommend it. it doesnt do much for performance, i might have had a little better topend, but that didnt make up for the loss in torque. it did sound badass, but it makes your car have more show than go. your choice though.

I've heard different...From what I've heard on this and other boards, it'll give you another couple hundred RPM at the top end and can be worth atleast .1-.2 sec in the 1/4...this is from people that install it after the cat. Before the cat=VERY loud, after cat=very throaty

I have one, and sounds awesome!
Before the cat is where i decided to put it.
The gains are true! I only take it off at he track after i do one run, so i can tell the difference! Also looks cool when you come up to the tree and you sound totally different!

BTW i HAVE ONE FOR SALE!

when my car was TPI and basically stock the best I could run was 14.6 with the exhaust taken off at the y-pipe. I put the 3" exhaust on and ran 14.4. TPI makes its power down low so that top-end HP you gain from open exhaust does you no good. You need all the low-end you can get.

my friend with a 98' TA LS1 ran a 13.2 with no mods but a cutout right after the y-pipe and a best of 13.7 with the exhaust closed and a 80 series out the back....might be a completely different story with your car....

My cut-out didn't make the car any noticably faster but did seem to lower the engine temp plus made the car EXTREMELY loud. Sounds awesome though.
