is it possible that it leaks only on acceleration?
i've been 2 a couple of exhaust shops... they all say there are no leaks..........hmm..... when the car is under load.. i hear a hollow tinney like ping from the left side.. the instant i let off the gass it is gone....not just accelerating from a stop but.. even cruising ..ill touch the pedal and ...theres that sound.. i can hear it bouncing off of the houses... I DONT EVEN WANT TO DRIVE THAT CAR... that sound is horrible..
thanx guys..
Rob
YA KNOW I SPENT all kinds of money on headers and flowmaster ..and all you hear while driving is this sound..

It could be possible that it's a small leak right now, and only under load does the pressure build up enough to create a sound.

That's actually common with header / manifold leaks.
I had some loose header bolts and it was ticking at idle. I tightened them all down now it only ticks under load. You can really tell the difference when you're crusing.

What I'd do is grab a wet towel and cover the exhaust pipe with it while someone else looks/listens for a leak. The extra backpressure will usually make the leak audible.
Could be your exhaust system is just touching the body somewhere during acceleration. The engine/exhaust system will move ever so slightly when you accelerate which could bring some piece of your system in contact with the body.
Mine was doing this and the sound is most annoying, often is louder in the car than it is from outside, depends on where it's touching.

I have the same problem. Unfortunatly mine ticks until the point that the gasket blows and then I replace and the cycle repeats. I agree with "I don't even wanna drive the car" cause the leaking exhaust ruins all the pleasure of driving it. Plus, instead of people looking at me saying "sweat iroc," they look and say "what a piece of ****."

yeah... thats what mine sounds like too....
actually i'm hoping its an exhaust leak and not a wristpin or a piston problem...

Isn't that noise annoying. My '89 RS does it just from cold for a couple of minutes, so I'm assuming the headers expand with the heat and close the miniscule gap that is blowing. It's in the shop tomorrow for a full head gasket set (stem seals mainly, but if the head's off might as well do the rest), hoping to cure that particular blow.
