headers a bad thing???

I have a question. I was talking to a guy who works at a shop that installs exhaust systems and he said he doesnt recomend headers for my car. Here was his logic. He said my engine is not making enough power for the headers to be beneficial. The headers would be too wide open and it would take too many RPM's to get a boost. He said my 0-60 and quarter mile times would actually be slower with my current setup with headers. He said once I get a cam and some ported heads then headers would be good but until then my stock manifolds is the fastest thing I can have. Was he telling me the truth or just blowing smoke up my ***?

Headers are a very good mod for our cars. The stock exhaust systems are very restrictive. If you put on headers and a cat back you could see gains of up to 30-40hp. Compare that to the power you're making from the stock manifolds. Power is made by how easily air can be taken in (intake) and pushed out (exhaust) of the engine, so the less restrictive the parts, the more power you will be making, it's a simple as that. I would also reccomend finding a new guy...

He's full of ****, couldn't be more wrong. Even the mild 305s benefit quite a bit from headers. You will certainly see a pretty big improvement.

I'm speechless, there's nothing I can say that anyone else hasn't. The guy is a MORON .
Headers should be your first mod.

What has me confused is that the guy basically had a chance to sell some headers and instead of saying how good they are he chose to take the other. Interesting. Did he have a noticable scar on his forehead???

I noticed a significant improvement when I added headers and a hooker cat-back to my rather tired LG4. Even though the intake side is still restricted with the stock heads and so on I can feel the motor turning better particularly at high rpm.
