Im buying headers...

i will be purchasing some headers in a week or two. Im stuck between the Hooker Shorties pn# 2055 from jegs and the Hedman Tubular Exhaust Manifold pn# 68481 from jegs. I need to pass emmisions so I need all the AIR tubes and 02 sensors I would like some pros and cons of each system. Im leaning towards the Hedmans right now...

I've heard SLPs are worth it if you can afford them. I got hedmans cause I can't! And they seem fine so far. But man it was a pain to put them on. Don't make any other plans that day!

Here's the advantages:
hedman - cheap
hooker - better flowing, bigger primaries/collectors

Disadvantages:
hedman - doesn't flow as well as hooker
hooker - exspensive

For what it's worth I have the Hedman 68481 set up on my 83TA-LG4 since about this time last year and no complaints except I had to remove the AIR tubes and plug the O2 because I don't need them. No leaks either but I have some fatass gaskets that seem to work real good.

Those hooker supercomp shorties don't fit for **** on the passenger side of the motor. Note i have the later serpentine accessory routing and i haven't removed any of them. I bought them for my GTA and they dropped right in on the drivers side but I had a lot of "fun" getting them installed on the right side. You can't get them in from underneath because they have the AIR tubes on top and the heater box makes it almost as bad when you try to get them in from the top. The instructions say to jack the motor up but to get them in I ended up removing the valve cover and the starter and muscling them in there. Another way to do is to unbolt the accessory bracket (the one with the A/C and AIR pump) and move it out of the way and just slide the headers back into place.

I was talking to some guy I go to school with and he told me I should get MAC headers. He has them for his mustang and says he really likes them. I looked at there website www.macperformance.com and their headers look really nice. But for that price I could get SLP's. (just looking for a little more input, "do it right the first time")

Hey Z28racer, maybe you should get a job at SLP!!! That is the excuse they use for everything.

buyer: Hi, I ordered a TC from you and all you sent me was an empty box.

SLP: Oh, there's not much we can do about that, I'm sure it was an installer error or maybe you need new motor mounts.

Hooker sells a coated version of their 2055, I think it's just 2055-1 or some other suffix on the part number. Thunder Racing sells them, just saves you some shipping and time...no need to ship the headers to you, then you ship the headers to the coater, then the coater ships the headers back to you.

They put the -1 on the end if they're coated. I just got a set of 2466-1's that are ready to be put on.

I bought my Hooker 2055's directly from Jet Hot. I layed them in place before I put the heads back on, just in case it was a tight fit, but I can easily pull both sides back out. The car does not have air, and everything else is either loose or out of the way, but I'm amazed how well they fit. (with air tubes). I hope the Y-pipe installation goes as well.

hookers look nice, I just bought them. I am having them sandblasted today. I will be installing them soon. They have all of the emmision hook ups, but the Y pipe ends as a pipe. There is no flang. You will have to do some modding to that. They cost more, but I think it was worth it. And I have access to a lift so I think installing them will not be that hard.

I got my tax refund today and am considering buying the 2055 headers. Do they come with everything I need or do I need to buy bolts and gaskets?

They should come with everything, but I would recommend getting better gaskets and bolts. For the gasket, Percy's dead soft aluminum gasket, and for the bolts, stage 8 locking header bolts. The stuff that comes with it works, but if you put this stuff on you should never have a problem. To me it's worth the extra money to not to have to worry about it than the gaskets leaking and you have to pull them off and replace them with the aluminum ones anyways.
