Headers ARE NOT the only way to make a good exhaust system.

You may be right, but if you want a great flowing exhaust and most HP you can, get headers.

And why would he be frustrated? Because someone is pointing out other possibilities that are there? Because you can do something else and still make descent power?

Nope, but they are the most effecient and logical. You may be able to make a decent exhaust system with manifolds, but you loose out on the scavenging. I like them just for the fact I can see what I am doing when I am changing plugs now.

In the book Vizard states:

"As has been so well demonstrated by Randy Brzezinski at Brzezinski Racing, these can be modified to good effect. Brzezinski has spent a considerable time developing these "stock" iron type manifolds and has ahieved power gains equal to about two-thirds of that produced by a good header system.

However, the modifications entailed are often more than just grinding manifolds to make them flow better. In man cases the manifolds have deflector plates welded in to cut cylinder to cylinder interference. Replicating Brzezinski's best efforts could well be as costly as buying one ofthe cheaper brands of headers."

Ok, so who wants to do all of this work(notice it is more than just porting) to get 2/3 of the performance of headers? Also, this is a guy that has a lot of experience doing this and it was his "best efforts".

Again I state no I am not saying that it is not possible to get a decent exhaust made from manifolds but WHY unless you are in a racing class that requires them.

Yea........ what that guy did was more than porting, BUT if you keep reading, David Vizard writes that his tests only involved porting.

And I'm not saying the guy shouldn't even think about headers. They are a good way to go. But using manifolds that are ported will work well also.

Yes, his only involved porting, and he gives hp numbers which sound decent but if you figure that the motors he was probably running them on were probably making a good amount of power to start with and the gains he saw were probably less than 2/3s because he only ported then you can see that there is a fair amount to be gained with headers. For instance he said that the most he gained was 22. Well if that was 2/3s it would have been 33 w/ headers and it was most likely less than 2/3s so it could have been even more with headers. I am not going to tell anyone what to use, but I wouldnt want to give up hp just because I was to stuborn to use headers. I think that as far as what he has pointed out as his reasons for not wanting headers that he would change his mind if he actually tried them. They are actually easier for me to change my plugs with and they cool down quicker than manifolds, and like mentioned before if they heat up the floor boards something is wrong other than headers. Also he is looking at spending 90 a piece on manifolds. If he was going to use what he had I could somewhat see the point but that is insane.

LH Manifold 14094063
RH Manifold 14094064

The price in the states is 90 dollars each brand new from genuine gm parts you can find it on the web. They will not ship to Canada I checked at the dealer and they can get them but they want $280 Canadian each!!!!!!! !@$!@$!@$!@#$t!

Any suggestions on how I can get a set at a reasonable price in Canada.
I am with you onthis one.. I have a set off edelbrock TES headers with a 3" Y pipe... I have then Jet Hot Coated. THe head and the leaks are killing... Considering that I live on the tropics, the heat is just unbearable. Changing the spark plugs.. Lord... I wont even go there... I really want to give a try to Cast Iron Manifolds... If I lose 10 HP, and truly dont care... As long I can enjoy the ride...

No kidding, why respond to a 5 year old thread? Not to mention you bought Edelbrocks, one of the worst headers out there.
