If the Mufflex Y pipe is 4 inch and the header collecters are 3 inch and exhaust pipe 3 inch , how does that work?, with adapters or something. Also I am not going to be running a cat. THANX

Basically, the collectors are 3 inches and the pipes are 3 inches. What happens is as the 2 pipes come together, they converge into one 4 inch pipe. This might seem strange since your going from 2 3inch pipes to 1 4 inch pipe, but trust me it is fine. There are no adapters, it all bolts right up. Check the mufflex website for pic's. There is also somebody on the boards who is running this setup.
Oh yeah, if you are concerned about flow, it has been proven that the 4 inch single system is equal to dual 3 inch.

From what I am reading in your sig , I gather that you are using the Mufflex Y pipe and a Flowmaster 3 inch catback with SLP longtube headers . Because they say to be used with Hooker Super Comp headers , I figure that they are just suggesting you use the Hookers and that any longtube header will work (since you are using SLP). The Hooker S.C.'s are $385 uncoated ! I was going to get Hedman longtubes , and the Flowmaster American Thunder and delete the cats. I figure if I get the Mufflex Y pipe with the 3 inch adapter they sell , this should work out fine , I will just need a piece of 3 inch pipe to go in the place where the cat would be . Does this sound like it will work , I really want to go with the longtube headers.Thanx for the info! :hail: BTW that 4 inch exhaust system they sell is incredible but I dont have the horsepower (or money) to justify buying it !

I'm running the 4 inch system with SLP 1 3/4 in. headers. No long tubes here, at least not yet.
I still have to go through emissions so it has to "appear" like I'm legal. As far as I know, the Y pipe is an off-road pipe. This completly bypasses the cat, just goes straight to the cat back system. This way you won't have to bother with a pipe to replace the system. There was a pic in the link that shows exactly how the setup would appear. Headers, y-pipe, mufflex system. Just replace the mufflex system with another and your set.

I see what you mean about how the Y pipe goes all the way back to the rest of the exhaust . Besides that , the Flowmaster 3 inch is about $350 , I think I may just go with the Mufflex 4 inch for the extra $150 I think it is worth it . With that big of a pipe did you have any fit problems , like where it goes over the rearend or anywhere else ? I have been trying to figure out what exhaust to get for like two weeks now , and this looks like it ! I thought about the true dual setup but since this flows the same and follows the stock route it seems much better . Since you have shortys are you just using the Mufflex catback and not the Y pipe they have ? I see you opted for the Flowmaster instead of the Spintech , they are both the same price , is the Flowmaster better? Sorry about all the questions and B.S. , I am just ready to get this done !! Thanx again for all of your info !

No problem at all. Yeah, I'm not using the Y-pipe yet, I still have to pass a visual inspection for emissions.
Everything fit really good when I got it installed. The only problem I found was the section that goes over the rear end. The front part of the pipe was too long. Basically, going from rear to front, as it goes over the rear and comes down and meets with the intermediate pipe, that part was too long. It caused the entire exhaust to sit a little on the low side. All I had to do was cut the pipe about 2 inches and it fit like a glove. If need be, I'll take some pic's later to show.
Oh yeah, when I got my exhaust, Spintech wasn't an option.

I ordered my headers and AFPR today and I've got a couple more questions for you . Did you install your exhaust yourself ? I do all of my work on my car myself except for stuff that I just cant do at home , like welding and having tires mounted and things like that. I was also wondering if you noticed any loss in low RPM performance with such a big pipe,because my engine is currently stock . I may get a cam or different intake later but cant afford it now with all of this exhaust stuff . They do have a 3.5 inch system available . Since I was going to go with the true 3 inch dual setup anyway,but did not want all of the clearence hassles,I guess the 4 inch will be okay since it flows the same . Oh yeah,if the Spintech were available when you bought yours,would you have got it or the Flowmaster? Thanx again for taking the time to answer all of my questions !:hail:

Pictures would be cool if you could get some up . I plan on taking my time on this project , I have to replace my intake manifold gasket and I am going to port and polish the plenum and runners so there is no major hurry .

Like I said before, no problem at all. Finally something I know a lot about.
I do all my own work also, but the exhaust had to be done by an exhuast shop. Reasons for that were:
1) I cut a pipe to short and didn't have enough left over to mount the new system to the old one.
2) I wanted it welded up nice and clean.
3) Custom hangers.
Now that I'm thinking about it, you might want a shop to put it on for you. The system mounts using the stock hangers and it fits OK, but I wanted mine to sit nice and tight so custom hangers were installed. It only cost me $80 to get it installed. It would have cost $60 but I had them clean up some spots I welded when putting on my headers. Also, if yours sits low, do you have a pipe cutter to cut that big *** 4 inch pipe? Probably not.
On to other things. To be honest, I really didn't notice any low end loss. I probably did but it really isn't enough to notice. My engine is still stock also, if you were wondering, but I have some wicked plans ahead.
On the subject of Spintech, I'm still undecided. If it would have been available, I probably would have flipped a coin. Both mufflers give of a distinctive sound, I think. Your best bet is to hear it on somebody's car and make a decision from there. Both mufflers offer different technologies but perform "about", key word, the same.
Last but not least, there is one thing to remember. If you start modifying the engine, at least you wont have to worry about the exhaust being the restrictive part of the equation and you'll get better results with any major mod you do.
