Pace setter headers???any good??
I may have a chance to pick up a set of pace setter headers at a decent price, and was wondering if they are any good or not???? they are coated, but I dont know about fit, etc??? anyone with any experience with these, id appreciate the help. They are 1 5/8 with a 3" pipe at the cat. Thanks

The only Pacesetter headers for 3rd gen of which I've heard are the ones in the JC Whitney catalog. They list the primaries as 1-1/2". If that's ID, then that's fine, since most people's 1-5/8" primaries are measured OD, and their ID is right at 1-1/2". I never have heard exactly what size the connection to the cat is (wrote both JC Whitney & Pacesetter, no response from either).
The reports are sketchy on these particular headers, from "fit fine and run great" from someone who doesn't seem to have any exposure to other headers, to "tinny & rust out in no time" from someone who has been around Pacesetter products on Mazdas (I had a pair of Pacesetter turbo mufflers on the '57 for years, gave them to someone else who ran them on their '68 Camaro for a year - no rust problems with them).
1st thing I'd do is verify exactly what you're getting. If coated, that should take care of any rusting problem.

and for the record the on pacesetter headers even though most of my experience has been with mazda's I would think that would give an indication as to what build quality they use on other cars also
I doubt they are going to say ok all the mazda ones lets make like crap but when it comes a f bod we need to make it perfect
the problems I have seen though are as you said with rust and bad sound, but also fit, warping, most of the pipes are not anywhere near the same in size,
and I have been hearing a lot of the same things from ppl who have tried them on other cars as well.
let me guess though you wanting to get them b/c they don't cost a lot..... you ever think why they don't cost that much?
