Sanderson exhaust question

Has anyone on this site put Sanderson "shorty" headers ( made for thirdgen F-Bodies) on their cars? I was just wondering if they sound good? Starting my dual exhaust project within the next few weeks so I am researching right now.

Thanks Drew

Yeah, Sanderson's stuff is really popular among the street rod set, because they custom make damm near everything. They also make a cast iron 'header' that has some interesting possibilities.

But yeah, they are mucho, mucho, expensive. ($300 for headers, and I don't know if they have Y-pipes)

I am interested in getting a pair of the shorty headers, designed for F-Bodies. They run about $225 and they will fit perfectly on the engine and in the compartment. My problem is emissions, they are not emissions legal. I am not sure but I have been thinking that maybe I could drill a hole, thread it and stick the O2 sensor in the header and hopefully not have any problems with emissions. This is a big " WHAT IF?".

Any suggestions on it?

Drew

Sanderson headers are something I keep kicking around as a possibility, as I'm having one Hell of a time deciding how to improve my exhaust system. I like the idea of installing something and (basically) leaving it alone - I have a really bad taste in my mouth regarding headers, because of leaks. As far as the O2 port, I have a feeling you could safely drill and tap a hole for it. If you feel uncomfortable doing this, I would consider a competent machine shop. If the idea still makes you nervous, you can always contact Sanderson and see how they respond. BTW, I'm not trying to talk you into anything, this is how I do things. If I really want to try something, I usually do - sometimes I get bit. Anyway, the Sandersons seem to be a reliable alternative, IMO, even though they are a bit salty. Good Luck, Brian

SX Stinger, Sorry, I kind of went off on a tangent in my last post. As far as emissions legality, Sanderson does offer a version of the thirdgen headers with AIR hookups, but as you stated, no O2 port. Does that make sense? This version is $300, and no Y- pipe is offered. I guess it all comes down to what you really want. I'm curious now, maybe I'll contact them and ask about an E.O. #, and what they suggest for an O2 sensor. I'll let you know... Brian

In case anyone's still wondering, I called Sanderson just to satisfy my own curiosity. I found out that they don't offer an emissions legal header for our cars (SX Stinger, you were right). I was looking at the cast iron version which is offered with AIR hookups drilled and tapped ($350+$75) I realize now SX Stinger, that you were interested in the shorty headers. Incidentally, after telling me that they didn't offer a "legal" header, the guy recommended Hedman or Hooker; Said they both made a quality product.:hail: How cool was that? Anyway, hope this helps Brian
