Removing the Cat

Removing the Cat

If i were to remove my cat would that make a difference in the sound? If so how? Thanks!

Yes it would make a difference. Generally it will make your exhause louder with a slightly different note. The sound will all depend if you have a stock exhaust or Hooker, Flowmaster, Dynomax, or some other aftermarket exhaust.

Does anybody know if it is illeagle to remove the cat in washington? I couldn't find any info.

It's illegal to render any emission control device inoperative on any vehicle so equipped to be operated on any state highway. There is just no way to police it unless the state becomes as **** about it as California. Most states just do not want the financial burden so they leave it to an annual look see. In my state they just look for the cat. sniff it, and check the gas cap. You can get away with removing the cat and then reinstalling it for the annual inspection.

Thanks for the info! The anual inspection is just when you go to get emissions? Is it hard or costly to reinstall the cat for the inspections? Thanks again!

If they only have a visual inspection and don't actually test the emissions then you could just gut the thing. Then they will never know other than the sound and I don't think they will remove the cat to see if it is gutted.
