My First Hooker
My First Hooker
OH MY ***. i had a 2 1/4 crimped up, tied in a knot home made y pipe, into a 40 series flomaster dumped out where the cat is supposed to be. Now i have the proper 2 1/2 y pipe with mandrel bends and the 3 inch hooker catback with no cat. the sound is amazing. hardly any interior resonance and a great idle. not to loud on idle but just enough to know that the little 305 means business. at WOT its freaking awesome. a thunderous roar. i have one question though, is it supposed to smoke a litte when you put in a new muffler and pipes? i never noticed it smoking before and now it kinda smokes when you get on it. not thick smoke just lightly. when they were welding it up i saw the same smoke coming out the pipes so i figured this is normal. am i right? also the seat of the pants difference was very good as well. i used to only chirp my 255 rears, now they slide a lot longer on the 1-2 shift. i would most definetly recommend this catback to anyone over a flowmaster. flowmaster is more expensive and imo doesnt have the same heartyness to it at WOT. my flow sounded hollow at WOT. also the engine revs up way easier and seems to be working a lot smoother through the rpm band.

well it's revving easier and making more power bc it can finally breathe ... and give flow's a chance - when it's an 80 series out back of a 350 on 3" @ wot you can hear it roar for MILES :P
glad to hear you're enjoying your hooker, bc i don't think there's a money back guarantee

the smoke you see is probably the coating on the pipes heating up and coming off, unless you get them jet-hot coated they'll do that until it's all been burned off. it's a common thing with new headers too so i don't think it's anything to worry about. it can't be your cat going up in smoke from bad AIR injection tubes - bc you have no cat!

thanks for the advice on the smoke i was kinda worried. and btw my friend has a 97 z28 with lt4 hotcam and a 80 series flow. it sounds really mean at idle but when he stomps it, the exhaust sounds like a golf ball is rattling inside. i like flowmasters idle but the WOT leaves something to be desired. its all a matter of opinions though. and you cant find a full 3" flomaster catback with tips for 199 bucks. and the tips that come with it look like pickup truck tips.
yea the smoke is normal with the exuast set up. when i put mine on it smoked for a bit and then finally stopped and also the roten egg smell came when i first started it and went away.
