Cat Back Installation
Cat Back Installation
I'm finally replacing the original exhaust system on my 87 IROC 350 with a flowmaster system. Can I easily remove the system from the cat back and put the new system on with the back tires on my ramps, or does the car need to be on a hoist?
Thanks

A hoist would be easier but it can be done. One thing though, don't use ramps if possible. What you'll want to do is raise the rear of the car and put jack stands in front of the control arms. From there lower the rear end. This will drop the diff and make it easier to remove.

I don't know that the car needs to be on a "hoist". I would say that jackstands would do you just fine. I would NOT try removing and installing a cat-back with the rear tires on a ramp. This won't allow the rear axle to hang down at all.
I'm sure someone will tell you that it can be done. And sure the Mona Lisa can be painted on a pinhead, but if you have more clearance the job will be much easier.
It's really not that bad of a job, but allow a few hours and make sure you have a Saw-zaw on hand to make a cut or two in the old pipe. A hacksaw or dremel will only make you angry.
Good choice going with Flowmaster by the way!
