bad cat question

My catylitic converter i was told is F***ed up. After hearing that i was surprized that i passed emitions. My question is i have noticed my car hesitates when getting on it. The guy at Midas says the bad catylitic converter is the cause of it. Sometimes the car will want to spin tires and sometimes it wont. Check the sig for mods.

A bad cat will affect performance, but how do you know the cat is bad?

I took it to midas for a buyers inspection. he said the cat is really messed up and the muffler will need to be replaced in the near future.

either it is or is not! Take it out and dirve it hard at night. pull it in the garage, turn off the lights and look under the car. If it is red, it's bad. Or jack it up and pound on it...not too hard with your fist, rubber mallet. If you hear a rattle, it's bad. Or you could take it to a different shop...good idea, and have them check it out. Most good muffler shops have a heat device that can dectect abnomral temps, thus, finding a bad cat. I would find a good exhaust shop, sounds like the one you went to was looking to sell you down the river possibly.

I wouldn't trust midas saying your cat is bad. Try the above mentioned methods first, before shelling out $90 on a cat.
