Cat Back System

Hey

I'm debating replacing my stock exhaust on my '86 Z28 305 with a cat back system. i'm wondering if anyone out there has some info/ advice on different systems (flowmaster etc,) $ costs. I would love to keep the dual exhaust. I just would like to get a deeper sound, but not too obnoxious. Also, when putting in a cat back system should i replace the cat with a higher flow cat or leave the stock cat in...i would take it right out, but for emissions it's gotta stay.

buy a $159 dynomax cat back then throw the muffler away and get a 80 seiries flowmaster muffler/ still cheaper than the flowmaster cat back thats what i did a while back.

It's been an HOUR, c'mon, Mark!!!

Hey Fast3rdGen, that's pretty clever, so do you happen to know how it sounds/performs in relation to the actual Flowmaster cat-back?

well the dynomax cat back had all aluminized pipe, mandrel bent (just as flowmaster's does) and it sounded nice and nasty like a flowmaster should. it also performed pretty well. i have not had an actual flowmaster cat-back to compare it to though. everyone around here usually just buys the mufflers seperate and takes it to the local exhaust shop to install. he can do mandrel bending, and has both stainless ans aluminized pipe, and he's extremely cheap so it is actually cheaper than buying the whole cat-back set-ups.

oooh, yeah I'm a complete moron, lol. I thought that might've been you but oh well.

My grandfather and uncle races at Kilcare all the time with Corvette Troy. I've been up there a few times. I want to go and see what my car will run.

Yeah we oughta meet up some time. About the beer thing though, nope. I just turned 19 and look younger than that, hehe.

What?? Are you serious? Man I'm running practically open exhaust right now (no cat, big gaping hole right after where the cat should be ) and I haven't had one bit of trouble. 'Course I'm on a TPI 305 compared to your....yeah.... but still.

dude once you hear my car you'll know why cops follow me EVERYWHERE i go. no joke. they will bust a u'y in the middle of the road to turn around and follow me. they be parked in a parking lot talkin to another cop, look at me as i got by 5-10MPH UNDER the speed limit, and they'll both pull out to tail me so close i can't see their front end. man i would love to just jam it into first sometimes and smoke a ****in crown vic....but only being 22 abd having long hair i know i'd get it rammed to me really hard in the court lmao.

Id go with Magnaflow. It is a little louder then stock (and will get a little louder over time) and has a deep agressive tone. Trust me you wont be disapointed!

Oh, and you don't have dual exhaust. It's dual pipe outlets but single exhaust.

That's exactly what I did too on my 1991 Z28 (5.7 TPI L98)...and added a 3 inch exhaust cut out and hacked off both of the cats. So many people have asked me what exhaust I'm running and most of them think that it's one of the SLP loud mouths.....but I'm really happy with the sound!!
