Flowmaster of disaster!
Well no this is not a disaster, but I'm sure once I get into it will be!
What i'm going to do with the clogged cats is cut them off and gut them! I believe this is the easiest way, unless someone can convince me to try and do it with out cutting them off!? Then I'm going to get a whole new cat back system. I was looking through the summit catalog at the flowmast cat backs and noticed the cat backs they sell have the 3 inch single outlet muffler. Is there an advantage to having the single opposed to the double? Also do they sell a double three inch outlet muffler? I'm pretty sure they do cause I've seen cars with them, but do they offer it with there catback deals?

Yes they have a duel outlet flowmaster muffler. go to www.jegs.com . go to exhaust and then mufflers and then Flowmaster replacement mufflers. It called Flowmaster 80 series. and also under cat backs they have the whole cat back system

To hell with flowmaster. I got the Force II system(with the single outlet) and it sounds like crap and it doesn't fit very good. I was much happier with the 3" Dynomax system I had on it. IF I had to do it over again I would get the Magnaflow system (www.magnaflow.com). My buddies now all have Flowmasters on their IROC's and Z's and they all sound the same. Somebody please dare to be different.
You got the wrong one. The Force II system sucks, it is trash, it sounds hollow and metallic. I've never heard a good sounding car with a 3 chamber Flowmaster muffler. The American Thunder system, however, roars. I don't have it, but I have basically the same thing: a 2 chamber, single outlet muffler, and a 3 inch I-pipe. Mine sounds great. Not a trace of hollowness once the car has warmed up.

you dont have to cut the cats off to gut them. I had a clogged cat awhile back and all I did was disconnect the cat back pipe , left the cat on the y-pipe, and just crammed an iron bar in there till the catlyist was in small enough peices to come out. It took awhile, but I finally did it. I also used a shop vac to help get the stuff out

To add to 3.1's advice,,, I did mine in a similar fashion except I used an 18" bore bar in an electric drill, in place of the iron bar, and went to town. It seemed a little easier while laying under the car. I guess maybe my bar didn't have a good enough point on it though, or I'm a bigger wuss than I thought

The flowmaster single outlet systems have always sounded like total *** to me. Too hollow and tiny or whatever.
But the dual outlet flowmasters really sound totally different. They have a hint of that sound, but are much deeper and meaner sounding.
I have that dual outlet system on my 86 IROC (single 3" inlet, dual 2 1/2" outlets though, don't think they make a dual 3" outlet one). It sounds pretty good. But I also have a Hooker aerochamber cat-back on my 87Z and prefer it over the flowmaster system by a large margin. It doesn't have any of that tiny sound, pure roaring aural beauty if you ask me. (Hooker system also has quad tips, for the same price as the flowmaster system w/ crappy turn down tips)
I had some sound files of both but the quality was laughable and did nothing to help anyone compare. I'll have to try to redo them in better quality at some point, this topic just comes up too often.

I totally forgot Murt had this system on his IROC (the dual outlet flowmaster that is) and made some pretty good videos w/ sound. Mine sounds virtually identical to his on the video. Good sounding system for a flowmaster, not that typical tiny, hollow sound the single outs have.
2.4 megs worth of video for only a few seconds, but it gives some idea of the sound. There's one other one too I think under the movies section of the site.

Still gotta say I prefer the Hooker system though...

Did you ****ing read what I just said? You totally brushed what I said aside. The reason Murt's exhaust sounded so good is because he ran a pipe in place of the cat, and ran a 3" Y-pipe in place of the stock one.. I am 100% certain that it would sound like *** with a gutted cat, and I am equally certain that a single outlet system would sound better. Must I make a ****ing sound file of my car to prove it? Looks like I will.

Sorry there MrJ, didn't see that post. I didn't notice a new post had been added when I went back and posted a second time. Anyway, all the single outlet systems I've heard had that patented Flowmaster sound. I'm sure if you say yours doesn't then it doesn't. Perhaps they make some different series single in/out setups?
My system sounds damn near exactly like Murts, I have the stock y-pipe, had a stock gutted cat originally, and now have another 3" catco cat like on my 87Z. I didn't notice a whole lot of difference on the car w/ the catco vs the gutted cat (but I hadn't driven it extensively for awhile to compare, little quieter, slight tone diff maybe. Not like night and day though IMO).
Murt had a 305 TPI auto BTW unless I'm mistaken. I was thinking he had the stock exhaust manifold/y-pipe setup though, beats me. He still around?

He's still around. He drives a low 12 second Turbo T/A now. In fact, he's a friend of mine, I talk to him every day on AIM, and we meet up at the track every now and then. He had the stock manifolds on his IROC, but had a huge a$$ Y-pipe installed when he had his catback done. He said it was one of the loudest, most brutal sounding cars around with the setup he had, and it does sound tough as hell on the video. I'm surprised that you said the high flow cat didn't make much difference vs the gutted one. In my case, it completely transformed the sound so much that it sounds like a different car now. I must say I didn't like the sound at all w/ the gutted cat. Sorry I got all riled up in the last post, I was thinking you had willfully ignored me or something

For my setup on my Iroc, I had the stock exhaust manifolds, a bigger Y pipe installed, straight pipe, Flowmaster 2 chamber crossflow style with dual 2.5" outs into Dual 3 1/2" tips. I had an 87 Iroc with the 305 TPI, the exhaust Kicked A$$, it was real loud and real deep sounding... On my TTA I run a 3" downpipe with open exhaust most of the time, and you just can't beat that loud turbo whistle...
I would reccomend just a flowmaster muffler and having an exhaust shop do custom tips...
Hopefully I can get some new Nitto's before winter so I can get a video of my TTA burning the old ones off....

Hey, I like my single outlet flowmaster. Sounds good and has the "Flowmaster" sound. Also has as deep rumble at idle.

I too love the way my 80 series Flowmaster sounds (3 inch intermediate Dynomax Pipe cat back to the flowmaster)....yeah...alot of people do run them..and some people are sick of the tone that Flowmasters have...but..they are a nice muffler that is affordable..and they sound great to me......I don't go aourn ******* other brands.....I would love to have an SLP...Borla....or something...but....they are pretty pricey. I have heard some hooker exhaust systems too...and they sound really mean too...I just think it's stupid why some people would say "flowmasters suck"........
***, I am so sick of hear FLOWMASTER! In my opion flowmaster sounds like crap- like a golf ball in a steel box. And someone said they all sound the same- couldn't be any more true. If you like the sound then that's fine, but come on guys, try some new stuff. There is so much out there. -89IRO
Do what I did...I bought the Force II, sold the muffler for $80 and bought a 40 series race muffler. I had the 80 series and it sounded hollow (and like ALL other F-bodies), but believe me when I say that the 40 series race muffler kicks A$$!!! I run Edelbrock shorty headers, y-pipe, and converter test pipe along with this catback system and I ALWAYS get compliments on the sound. Plus, I like the way the single turn-down tucks up under the bumper for that stealth look.
IMO, this is the only way to go without going full-out custom
