Muffler where Cat Converter Should be?

A friend of mine with a 1992 Z28 Ran a guy in a Purple what apeared to be a 91/92 Z28 to, but when he pulled over it was a Iroc 5.7 painted purple with 91/92 hood and spoiler, he had 3.something gears, built 700r4 and a few other things, anways.... To the question.

This Purple Iroc sounded pretty awsome, he showed my bud his exhaust and explained it, it was a 3 inch flowmaster cat-back, and where the single cat was supposed to be, the guy put a mufflex, flowtech turbo, or some other kind of smaller performance muffler their... I think i recall him teling me the same muffler a mustang has, or he compared it to the size of a stang muffler, dont remember, but has anyone heard of doing this?

See, but this guy also has a flowmaster cat back on after that flowtech or whatever, so he's running the air in one muffler, then back into another muffler, it just sounds WIERD.

It had 2 mufflers on it? WTF! That sounds stupid. I'd think it would be pretty quiet.

Pretty wierd though. Almost as odd as how I got my glasspack to fit inside the driveshaft tunnel.

But whatever works.

It can be done, but remember that the closer the muffler is to the engine, the more backpressure it will create
