Anyone heard about Hooker Super Comp Shortie Headers 50 state legal

Everyone talks about SLP and Edelbrock TES and the ones I have seen put Hookers on are just the Headers no Ypipe or emmisions stuff. Jegs, Summit and Internet Racers Supply carry a Hooker Super Comp Header 50 state legal 1 5/8 just like the other brands. Does anyone have any opinions or hear anything about them and how good they are. I just put a set on mine and am looking for others results.

Doug Glad, from Car Craft, has the Hooker shorty 50 state legal 1 5/8 headers on his '91 Z. He has one of the first sets made for dual cat engines. He showed them in one of the buildup articles in Car Craft during this past year.

He is using them with his 383", Super Ram, Vortech blower, and nitroused engine that is in his car now, which will be featured in next months issue of Car Craft.

He's using 1 5/8" headers on a supercharged 383? WTF!!!! I'd use AT LEAST 1 3/4" headers.

I have the Hooker Super Comp headers (model #2055) on my '87 IROC, and they are fully emissions legal. They have 1 5/8" primary tubes, the air tubes, O2 sensor fitting, Y-pipe with 2 1/2" downtubes and 3" at the end, and they bolted right up w/out having to jack up the engine or remove the steering shaft.

The only problems I had with the headers were having to enlarge the bolt holes on the flanges to make it easier to get the bolts in. It will also make it much easier to thread the bolts in by hand if you run a tap through all of the bolt holes before installing the headers. Removal of the oil dipstick tube was necessary, just remember to clean the end of it off really good to make reinstallation much easier.

HTH,

Greg
