headers won't fit

Hi, I have an 84' z28 that I just recently took out the l69 305HO and put in a machined 327. I have headers that are made for my camaro, they fit on there before, HOWEVER, I have a 7 qt. oil pan now and it gets wider at the botton of the pan, allowing one of my headers to run right into it. What can I use for headers????? I NEED them, or else all the money I spent on machine work 4000$ plus, will be down the drain because the engine will be choked out. please help, thank you

Put a smaller oil pan on or get a custom set of headers fabricated. Header manufacturers design the headers to work with stock components. Unless they specify that the headers will work in special applications, then they won't.

Are their any kind of store bought headers that I can attach though?? like some shorty ones?? I have shorties already, but they are made to simulate the y-pipe, so one side goes straight back(what I want) but the other side curves into my pan. I want both headers to go straight back, but not too far, because full length headers will come too close to my tranny. So, are there any shorty headers that will go straight back? Can I use blockhuggers, or will they hit the engine mounts?? thank you for your help.

Personally I would just put a smaller oil pan on. It's cheaper than buying another set of headers that probably won't fit.

I agree, switching to a smaller oil pan would probably be easier than modifying a set of headers to fit. Of course, you could try calling the oil pan manufacturer, and see if they can recommend a set of headers that would work with their oil pan.

I'd agree with the comments regarding swapping the pan. 7 quarts sounds like a lot of oil for your motor, and that much fluid will probably cause some oil control problems(excess splashing and roping, etc.,...)

If you absolutely must keep the pan, call <a href="http://www.headersbyed.com/">"Headers by Ed"</a>(612 729 - 2802, Minneapolis). They should be able to modify your present headers to fit.
