cat converter
cat converter
I am removing my cat, in my 84 camaro, v6. But I noticed there was a small pipe line connected to it, going up towards the engine. I looked in my car manual and it said it was the air management to converter pipe line, but that's all it told me. Anyway I am cutting out the cat because I'm removing my exhaust system. Should I cut this pipe as well. Is it just part of the cat, or part of the engine? Will I need it when I put on a new cat, or will one come with it? thanx

The pipe goes up to your smog pump. It's only purpose is to inject air into the cat to provide oxygen for the reaction. If you just cut it off or remove it it won't affect your engine at all.
Also, a new cat will not come with one of these tubes, so it'd be best to just leave it alone if you plan on putting a new cat in.
