header installation.

OK i really don't know much about my car, but i want it to be louder. I would like to get headers, but how hard are they to install? If i buy headers, do i need a new y-pipe (i think that is what it is called). Do I need to buy a whole cat-back system then? Is it possible to use the rest of my exhaust, just get headers for now. I have a borla muffler with (i think) the stock everything else, so i would want to keep everything else normal for now.

It could be a real pain depends on what equipment you have, you may need to buy new motor and tranny mounts, SLP recommends them, you then need to get the engine up high enough to get the motor mounts out and in. You'll need a cherry picker? to do it. Do not do as I did and jack it up under the oil pan now the crank hits the pan and if I cant pull it back out I'll have to get the cherry picker anyway to put in a new pan. My SLP headers came with a new Y pipe, I test fitted everything but in the process of welding in new high flow cats the dimensions changed and now the cats sit to low to the ground. I'll have to make some more adjustments to it. It was alot of work and I hav'nt finished yet so cant enjoy it yet to tell ya if it was worth it. Make sure you do it right. If you have more Q's you can contact me direct, my email is in my profile, or I'll check back here.

If you want your car to sound good right off the bat, consider the SLP cat back setup. It's something your could get installed in a few hours and be cruising to a throaty sound that evening. I got mine in without any problems as it's a direct bolt up. The hardest part is getting the old exhaust off. It is conterproductive in my opionion to get the headers with such a restrictive back end to the stock exhaust, mainly the restrictive catalytic converter and small diameter pipe and muffler. The SLP headers are next on my list. Good luck
