it seems no one knows how to install these things,I got screwed because non of the factory hangers matched up. I could never get it straight either.I've heard that borla has a sloppy assembly line, others tell me theyre the best made muffler.I just want to get it tied up properly and get my moneys worth.I should just go directly to borla, the Borla plant is only an hour & fortyfive minutes up the coast somewhere.

I've heard Hanson's muffler service in El Cajon is pretty good...don't have a number but they should be in the yellow pages under mufflers.

But you're right though, the Japanese will pay a LOT of money for an American muscle car.------------------

sorry IROC,I didn't know the air force was there too.I left my car at my dads house here in chula vista for almost a year,I'm here for four weeks of school, the only good side to being with out my car was all the money I saved!!..........wich is going towards aftermarket suspension mods and TCI transpack
I have an 88 transam 5.0 and i got a borla system and it is made of good quality metal but i tell you what their assembly line is not very good and it seems like they have bad quality control. the 1st system they sent me the rear right section of tail pipe did not lineup with the main pipe so I called carparts.com and they sent me another system and the same problem existed in this system. anyway carparts.com directed me to steve @ Borla in custumer ser. Ext. 205 anyway @ 1st they denied they have a problem but what ended up happening was they told me to take it to a shop and they would pay for the repairs. even the muffler shop said they messed up in their calculations. good luck

Any of the 3 Express Muffler shops in San Diego. I know the one of the owners, Tim. All 3 shops do awesome work. Theres' one on Broadway and Palomar in Chula Vista. Over by the 4 Wheel Parts. The others are on Balboa Ave in Clairmont (by the other 4 Wheel Parts) and Mission Gorge in Santee.

aye,aye captain!! thats cool that it's so close to home,I probably drove right by it the day when I had my cat leaks fixed at Midas and they welded my pipe to low. I might just take a road trip up to the Borla co. and let them see for themselves. I think I've talked to steve before,he pretty much denied any flaw in the construction, but I did get him to send me a new intermediate section. the rear looks kindoff crooked too,the tips seem to point in different direcions(sideways).my budget headman headers installed with ease while $500 Borla give me all this trouble!
WTF
thans for the recomendations guys.

Junkyarddog,
Regarding your Borla Exhaust, did you get the one with the exhaust tips on the left and right side or the one coming out on the left side only?

I'm pretty sure there's only one option for 3rd gens, part #5888 or somthing like that,3" 304 stainless "hemi" single in right/single out of left side, right side tip is connected to a 3bolt flange before the muffler. I have the right side blocked off,if I want I can open it to 1",2",or full 3" dia.! that lets the fumes right out. ( kind'a guessed on those first two diameters) the tips don't appear to be 304 stainless, they are split 45*cut.not the inter cooled ones. from behind it looks like a regular dual ex. w/split tips, the bypass flange isn't visible unless your going down a steep hill,it's legal as long as the plate is closed.even with it open I've never been stopped.I still don't have it on straight and it cost me almost $600!! you probably have better choices.the only cool thing about it is it still isn't rusting and I can play with the sound.as for looks....well with the crooked tips it looks funnier than some of the dirty mexican cars around here (I'm refering to the cars, not people
) I'll let everyone know what happens, and post pics if I can.

the "left side only" system you saw may have been a regular system closed up with the plate but without bolting the right side tip on,I had mine like that for three months because the nutslime I brought it to, welded it on crooked and blamed it on the construction, the both of us really thought that just one pipe was bent wrong.so I left the right side off thinking i was going to order a new section and everything would be alright. I ended up crawling under with a sawzall (thankfully there was one clamp up near the gas tank) once removed, I sawed around the welds and preserved the full lenghth of each pipe, then I proceeded to fit it up,I got it to be somewhat respectable, but as for "perfect fit" and "bolts right in" thats just fruadulent advertising. another reason could've been he was going "stealth" with a single ex. look, the closed muffler is so quite it could easily be mistaken for a six.... at idle anyways.
