Hooker Headers vs. A/C housing

I just installed my 350 into my T-top car and have hooker headers on it. After I finally put in the thermostat so the engine could get hot I noticed that the headers on the drivers side were melting (or atleast creating smoke) from where they get extremely close to the A/C box. At times they almost look like they touch. The headers are assumed to have been on this car before. Anyone else have this problem? Does it eventually stop smoking? Any help is greatly appreciated.
